Blue Moon Special: Lunar Oasis (1989)

Settlements on other worlds are a staple of science fiction and of speculative space planning. To date, however, serious work to develop the technologies and techniques that might make this dream a reality has been extremely limited in scope. In an October 1989 paper, two veteran space scientists proposed to change that. Beyond Apollo blogger David S. F. Portree describes the Lunar Oasis, a self-sufficient science outpost that would serve as a testbed for space settlements.
